Obelus accepts original, unpublished fictions of 5,000 words or less,  as well as graphic short stories through Submittable, our submissions  manager. We charge a nominal, non-refundable fee of $5.00 for each  submission.  

Feel free to submit simultaneously but please withdraw your piece  through Submittable as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere.  (And  congratulations on being published!)

Our editors read BLIND SUBMISSIONS year round so please do not include any identifying information on your manuscript.

We encourage the following format: 

• Times New Roman 12 point font
• 1” margins
• Double-spaced throughout
• Numbered pages
• Accepted file forms: .doc, .docx, .pdf

For graphic submissions, please send us your story (4 pages max) as a .pdf.

Rest assured. Your submission will be given multiple readings and  careful  consideration. Please allow up to four months to hear back from  OBELUS. We thank you in advance for your patience.

Please note that when you submit to OBELUS, your email will be added  to our mailing list. You will have the opportunity to opt out with each  newsletter.      

Every work that is published in OBELUS online will be considered for  publication in our annual print issue. One complimentary copy will be  provided to each contributor and additional copies will be available for  purchase at a discounted price.

OBELUS maintains first serial publication rights for all accepted  works. Copyright is asserted on behalf of the author and all reprint  rights revert to the author upon publication. We ask that OBELUS be  cited as the first publication if your work is included in an anthology  or collection.  

We regret that OBELUS is unable to pay its contributors at this time.
